Career Education income up 72%

Career Education Corp. ( CECO ) released earnings for its first quarter that advanced from last year.

The company said its bottom line came in at $5.18 million, or $0.07 per share. This was up from $3.01 million, or $0.04 per share, in last year’s first quarter.

Analysts had expected the company to earn $0.04 per share, according figures compiled by Thomson Reuters. Analysts’ estimates typically exclude special items.

The company said revenue for the quarter fell 18.5% to $162.11 million. This was down from $198.89 million last year.
