J&J reported near deal to sell Compeed for $1B

May 21, 2017

Johnson & Johnson (NYSE: JNJ) is close to selling its Compeed blister cushion business for about $1 billion, according to a person claiming to have knowledge of the matter. Compeed is the number 1 selling blister product in Europe, although sales figures are not known. It’s part of the broader Consumer Products division of J&J.

With a market cap of over $340 billion, a $1 billion asset sale may not move the needle for J&J, but it would come as somewhat of a surprise to the market. The company announced recently it is engaging in a process to evaluate potential strategic options for the Johnson & Johnson Diabetes Care Companies, specifically LifeScan, Inc., Animas Corporation, and Calibra Medical, Inc. A potential sale of Compeed or other Consumer Products units wasn’t mentioned.
